Invention is the mother of necessity!
FUSION Theatre Company offers a special six-week
summer class for ingenious girls ages eleven through
fourteen. Using unique forms of role-playing, improvisation
and working with a fun, interactive play, The
Invention, by Brad Gromelski, students explore
the process of discovery in a context that builds
confidence
and encourages creativity.
The play involves the efforts of the Narrator and
Fun Merchants to assemble a toy machine they
have invented. Conflict arises when Kalibad, a toy
spy, arrives and attempts to sabotage the invention.
The main character in the show is The Audience, whose
vocal and physical participation is necessary for
the play to exist.
An introduction to great women scientists and mathematicians
provides a foundation for developing characters and
gaining an understanding of what has made women great
in these fields. The class focuses not only on honing
acting skills and building ensemble, but also giving
girls confidence and inspiration as they continue
their studies in science and math through their school
careers. No prior acting experience is necessary.
The class meets at The Cell
Theatre, home of FUSION
Theatre Company, from 9 - 11AM Monday, Wednesday,
and Friday from June 2 through July 11. Tuition is
$175: need-based scholarships are available. Class
size is limited.
